Description
I’m not your stereotypical ‘yogi’ – I don’t live on a diet of kale and turmeric lattes. I’m not filled with an abundance of beautiful, inspiring words. I’m not a vegan. I drink alcohol and eat pizza far more than I should (Yogi or not Yogi). My class playlist is made up of The Weekend, A$AP Rocky, and Frank Ocean **gasp – expletives!!!** and worst of all… I never meditate.
What I am is a real, honest, 28 year old woman that practices and teaches yoga with more passion and heart than I sometimes know how to deal with. I practice asana to switch off and also to tune in to everyday life and find some quiet space between my thoughts. Asana ‘the physical practice of yoga’, is MY meditation, stillness in my body is something I am yet to master – but I will in good time. I practice yoga because it makes me feel like I could conquer the world and soften it all at the same time – and sometimes this feeling also happens off the mat. That’s yoga and it’s magic to me.
I teach yoga because I want everyone to experience all of these things too. I want men and women to find a new way to handle the sh*t the life throws at us. I want athletes to realise how well yoga compliments every other training programme that exists, I want the insecure to find a way to appreciate their bodies no matter what their shape or size, and the arrogant to realise how much sweeter life is when you leave your ego at home in the morning.
Listen while you yoga…
Your yoga will be different to mine and mine will be different to the next persons, but I can promise you, that even when it’s ugly, it’s beautiful. I started my journey practicing Bikram yoga for the physical benefits, and it’s perfectly ok if thats how your starts too.
Since Bikram, I have fallen for many other styles including but not limited to; Vinyasa Flow, Ashtanga, Yin and Rocket. My desire to spread the practice of yoga led me to Sampoorna Yoga in India where I completed my 200hr teacher training in Ashtanga and Vinyasa Flow. I have also completed a further 50hr of Rocket Yoga training with the The YogaPeople and 50hr of Yin Yoga back at Sampoorna Yoga – my home from home.
I teach from my own evolved daily practice which is rooted in feeling emotionally safe first and building strength and flexibility second. I’m passionate about guiding students to be mindful with their bodies, focusing on breath awareness and ‘personal’ alignment but above all else, having fun and enjoying every moment of their practice, the good, the bad and the ugly.
Other things I am passionate about include coffee, pizza, pigs (the cute ones and the chunky ones), French wines and pizza. I think I already mentioned pizza?
