Description
I have been uncovering yoga within myself since 2010. During the winter of 2016, I attended FLY Yoga School on Martha’s Vineyard for my 200-hour yoga teacher training under the loving and insightful care of Sherry Sidoti. Following my intuition, I continue to uncover my purpose to share the path to yoga with others. I teach yoga in a way continually influenced by my teachers and personal practices. Admiring clearness and directness, I am inspired to teach yoga from the ground up. I teach breath work and encourage the flowing together of the breath and the body. In all the Hatha yoga classes I guide, I invite all five movements of the spine: lengthening and straightening, folding towards the legs, lengthening upwards and backwards, bending towards the left and right, and revolving. My sequences come from the intention that flows through me at this moment, this moment, this moment. It keeps going. I begin with an idea inspired by someone or something, and move with it. As a singer/songwriter, I invite sound into my classes through music, chanting, and singing, and I explore connecting sound to the five bodies or sheaths: physical body, energetic body, mental body, wisdom body, and bliss body. I believe in everyone’s inner teacher and invite seeing the inner teacher during class, at home, and everywhere. I am continually changing and working with all that I am through yoga. With the help of my teachers and my own yoga practice, I am uncovering an openness to my own power. As a teacher of yoga, I am offering an openness for others to find their strength and power as living yoga. Instagram: @lianna_ankney (And my band! @diamondshapes_band)
Prior to shifting my full time focus to teaching yoga, I was a graphic designer (with a BFA in graphic design) for a small print shop based in Wall, PA for 8 years. I transitioned to an assistant manager position at a small gift shop in Murrysville, PA after that. I have the design and client interaction experience under my belt, and have access to and am fluent in Adobe Illustrator, Indesign, and Photoshop. I have a strong interest and history in designing logos, page layouts, social media graphics, and many other marketing materials. While employed at the gift shop, I learned many skills in managing and working with other employees to create and complete required day to day tasks as a team. I have found that I am able to focus best in clean, organized spaces and this transcends to my working process in completing projects.

I lead a Vinyasa Flow class and a Peaceful Flow class each on a weekly basis at the two studio locations in Pittsburgh, PA. Prior to each class beginning, I ready the studio and clear space for each class by walking the room, singing, burning incense and/or sage, and organizing the items in and around the space. I check students into the class, exchange greetings and introduce myself to students I do not know, as well as instructing them with the props that will be needed during each class. I come with a clear message and specific movements that will be taught, but I allow space for improvising, and reading the students and energy of the room as the classes progress. After the classes conclude, I offer a clear ending and space to “just be” afterwards for any and all students (if time allows) for any experiences that still need processing. I clean and sweep the studio after the students leave, make sure all candles/incense are burnt out, and organize all the props, readying the space for the next teacher in a timely manner.
