Description
I’ve been teaching yoga for 3 years now, while practicing for 10 myself. My teaching style depends on the needs of my students. I am highly adaptable and will make sure I am catering my teaching towards their particular goals. I like to begin by teaching the foundations of yoga to ensure we are practicing safely and without injury. I love to make fun playlists and sequences that will get my students into a state of flow and make them forget that their even exercising, while still helping them get to where they want to go. I am a master of creating mental calmness and clarity. I mostly use techniques from vinyasa and hatha yoga, but also incorporate yin, ashtanga, and kundalini into my practice. As for meditation, I help others let go of their anxieties, insecurities and help them grow into their best, most fulfilled, happiest, strongest, most amazing selves. Aside from being a yoga teacher, I am also a singer/songwriter with my music on all streaming platforms, a website designer and a writer. I continue to live out what it means to go for your dreams and expand beyond our perceived limits and create a life of wellness. I can help others do this too. As for the physical practice of yoga, I can help others express confidence through their posture, build the body of their dreams, and overcome any obstacles holding them back.
Education

YogaSpaceMarch 2018 - May 2018YTT 200 Hr
-
I did my yoga teacher training at YogaSpace in Toronto, where we focused on vinyasa and hatha styles of yoga, went deep into meditation, philosophy, wellness, and anatomy. This course gave me the confidence to guide others through a class or in a private setting, to lead people through positions safely, while maximizing the benefit they can get from each pose.

Nimbus School of RecordingAugust 2020 - December 2020Artist Development Certificate
-
Took a course on artist development, specifically towards music, where I learned the career strategies to make it in the music industry. Here we learned all about social media, brand strategy, creating an image, how to write effectively, combining sound and structure, and how sound frequencies effect the brain. I am applying this knowledge to my artist brand, AKESØ, as well as to my yoga business, where I am incorporating sound healing into my teachings.

NamasteticsMarch 2020 - December 2020Yoga & Meditation Teacher - ONLINE
-
When COVID began, I started teaching online with a yoga clothing company called Namastetics. We offered free classes to their clients through instagram Live. This was the first yoga company I saw providing this for their customers, to help with coping with the stress of the pandemic. My specialty was teaching relaxation meditations and classes catered to treating anxiety, depression, purposelessness and feeling overwhelmed. I also got to experiment a lot here by creating my own classes, such as “Yoga for the Boys”, “Rainbow Yoga” for LGBTQ community and those who feel shame for who they are, helping people feel grateful to be their self. I feel these classes brought a lot of joy to my audience and helped people get through some really tough times. This company has since decided to stop posting classes, so I am excited to begin with another company who wants to bring this same help to the world.

Yoga Makes WavesJanuary 2021 - PresentCo-Founder, Yoga Teacher
-
A fellow yoga teacher and I have established a not for profit yoga organization, where we are choosing a different foundation to donate half of the proceeds of our classes to each month. We have just began this offering, and have already had a lot of interest. We hope to emphasize the impact bringing your yoga practice with you off the mat can have on an individuals life and the world. We also hope to build this community to a point where we are making large contributions to different fundraisers every month.

Lake Louise REC centreJanuary 2019 - October 2019Yoga Teacher
-
Taught yoga classes to the small community of Lake Louise, and the occasional tourist. Gained some personal yoga clients through tourists coming to classes and liking my work who I teach online occasionally. Built a close knit community of regular class attendees who were extremely grateful for having this level of yoga in such a small town. Here I grew my abilities in teaching meditation techniques the most. As a small town, with limited staff, many locals were stressed from working long weeks and long days. I taught them coping strategies to reduce cortisol levels in the body, how to bring their yoga practice off the mat and into the real world, and how to rebalance their posture from effects on the different types of jobs. Here I really started to master my techniques in catering my teaching to the needs of a class and reading the energy of the room.

Kind Living with Sue SinclairAugust 2018 - January 2019Yoga Teacher (Intermediate Yoga)
-
Taught four intermediate vinyasa/hatha classes per week, with a community of fairly experienced yogis who were adamant for getting what they paid for. This challenged my teaching abilities greatly and brought me to a new level of professionalism, quality and care into my class structure. This challenged me to stay as up to date on trends as possible, incorporating new moves into every class that kept my audience engaged and coming back. I also trained alongside Sue Sinclair, an experienced yoga teacher, chiropractor and biomechanics expert. I absorbed her knowledge like a sponge and have carried it forward into my own teaching techniques.
-
YogaSpaceMay 2018 - August 2018Community Class Yoga Teacher
-
Taught community yoga classes to the local community at Yogaspace on Ossington street in Toronto. This built my confidence of leading a class and gave me the opportunity to learn from teaching different body types. I practiced using modifications, designing sequences, perfecting my vinyasa and hatha articulation, creating playlists and building relationships with my class.

Self EmployeedDecember 2019 - PresentPrivate Clients, Corporate Classes & Events
-
I have built a small portfolio of private clients who I work with on a weekly or monthly basis on improving posture, flexibility, mental health, and interpersonal relationships. Some of my clients are dealing with ailments such as OCD, depression, anxiety and overall feeling lost in life. I took a course on counselling online to understand the techniques for helping people with their issues when, through my yoga teaching, people naturally started opening up about their lives. I felt this was an opportunity to expand my impact. I am continuing to take courses online to improve my ability to change lives.
